J.B. Shakespeare Funeral Directors and Monumental Masons

Memorials

We are monumental masons and have undertaken work at cemeteries and graveyards throughout the Croydon-Surrey area and beyond.

We are happy to help with any memorial plans that you may have and will guide you through the complexities of the rules and regulations that govern the types of monument you may erect. These vary from churchyard to churchyard.

Not only do we supply new memorials and tablet stones, we also repair and renovate and can supply details on insurance policies designed to give you peace of mind.

The costs for erecting a memorial are made up of a number of elements. The price of the memorial, the cost of the lettering - this varies depending on the style - and the cost of the permit from the graveyard or cemetery governing body

For your peace of mind we are members of NAMM - the National Association of Monumental Masons.

We can also supply stone for other uses, for house nameplates and kitchen tops - if required. Please ask.

Inscriptions

What to say on a memorial is entirely your choice. Sometimes it is hard to decide what to have inscribed and knowing that these words will be lasting can be intimidating.

We would never presume to tell you what to have cut but here are some epitaphs that may provide food for thought.

We loved you
But God loved you best

Remember friend as you walk by
As you are now so once was I
As I am now you will surely be
Prepare thyself to follow me.

The fairest of leaves,
They soonest decay.

Our Cherished Husband, Father, Brother
Grandpa, Friend and Believer
Lived every day looking at the world
through eyes filled with love and showed us
how to walk with God in heaven on
earth.

Tomorrow to fresh Woods, and Pastures new.
His talent brought joy and
laughter to all the world.

You live on
In the minds you inspired
In the projects you pioneered
In the lives you improved and created
In the hearts that loved you
You cannot die.

Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime

So much to do, so little done

Shed not for her the bitter tear
Nor give the heart to vain regret
Tis but the casket that lies here
The gem that filled it sparkles yet

A Beautiful Woman
A Wonderful Hostess
A Perfect Wife

Gone from our home
But not from our hearts

A tiny flower, lent not given
To bud on earth and bloom in heaven

To live in the hearts of those we leave,
Is not to die
